I have an original Bump paper fastener, dating from around the 1920s which uses this principle. It was patented in 1914. I use it regularly, especially for papers that may be shredded eventually.

I bought one of these for the law office I work for to send mailings to inmates. The mail we send cannot have any staples in them and the sfs keeps the pages together without breaking the rules. It works great.

I agree that staples do a better job of holding papers together, they're metal after all. But as a student who often has to hand in assignments of less than 5 pages, it's pretty handy--especially if i intend to toss out those assignments once the year is over.
I'd buy it for the novelty and somewhat-usefulness, but i am curious how long it lasts (does the cutter get dull too quickly).

I think that you must not have done a very good review if you go to any other site with reviews this product gets failing marks from at least 50% of customers because it does not hold papers together well. There is no mention in your cons or any part of your review of this issue.

Great post on the staple free stapler. You were very thorough in your review. We were curious about this stapler. We found it along with some other cutesy shaped animals and did a brief post about them on our blog:

Seems like it's a pretty decent product!
