When I first saw this product advertised on one of the many gadget news sites that I surf every day, I almost blew Diet Coke out my nose. What moron would actually buy this thing?! Then I came home a few days later to find one of them in my mailbox staring at me! ACK! Now I would have to review it… Me thinks that SpeckProducts is not going to be too happy with me this time around.

So what is it? The iGuy is a white rubber Gumby suit for your 4th Generation iPod. Awww, look at the cute little butt…

There are cutouts for the main scroll wheel, earphone jack and hold switch. A clear plastic window covers the display.

The iPod slides into the suit through the rear area. It can fit the all 4th gen versions (20 – 60gb) by employing a hard plastic spacer insert.

So what cool features does the iGuy have? Wellllll, its arms are bendable. Not really easily bendable though. You may actually need a freaking pair of pliers to bend them. Ok, I’m exaggerating a bit. Besides having posable arms, you can make the iGuy sit down on your desk or the dock. Wheeeeeeee!

That’s it. Yes folks, all this can be yours for the amazing price of $35! Am I being a big stick in the mud for not seeing the point of this product? Is there something wrong with me for being annoyed at it? Maybe… I think this video pretty much sums up my feelings on the subject.

  2. but speck products went through the trouble of giving it a butt! an anatomically correct ipod, isn’t that what everyone dreams of????

thanks for a seriously funny review julie!

  3. Judging by the docking picture, Speck should have made a cradle that looked like a toilet. I mean they went to the effort to give the thing a butt. What are we supposed to think when it looks like that docked?

  4. If SpeckProducts will make a female version with nice jiggly boobies and butt… I would buy one and an IPOD.

  5. yeah, I’m lonely and dont get out from the lab much.

That’s a scary image you just planted in my head…thank you for that. :p

Next we’ll have females asking for an anatomically correct male one so that they have a place to hang their rings! Sorry, I just had to go there… :p

  7. I am laughing too hard to think of anything to say! Don’t know which is funnier though; the review or the comments…

  8. $34.99? are they crazy? At $5-10, it might make a nice conversation piece… good for a few laughs. Just imagine your wife/husband face when he sees what you’d done to his/her ipod….priceless. Ooops, wrong choice of words.

    Fringe stuff. Crazy pricing.

  9. Julie, after browsing your site and forums for a couple of weeks, I am now forced to register after your incredible review.

I mean the review and the comments were pretty funny, even the one about the pin-up photo. But when I saw the video I had to register as soon as I stopped laughing. It was even done Gumby style!!

Thank you for the laughs and know that your site now has a registered fan residing in the Dominican Republic. I hope the guys who sell the Iguy don’t stop sending you things after this.

Welcome aboard! I just sent SpeckProducts an email asking if they were mad 😉 Hey you know the saying that bad publicity is better than no publicity! 🙂

  11. Isn’t this also considered a protective case? (Just trying to find a practical use). If I owned an iPod, I would actually like one of these. But I am crazy :). Being the father of a 1 month old and being sleep deprived probably doesn’t hurt either 🙂

  12. I dunno… if you’re looking for a way to make your iPod stand up on your desk, the iGuy has a cheaper MSRP than an Apple Dock… and I have absolutely no doubt that these things will be even cheaper after a *very* short while! *LOL*
