Hi cersos, I have a 3g ipod with 2.2 firmware, and struggled with the same problem you have. Here's how I got it to work:

1. Press down firmly to seat the ipod. You must see the charging icon rotating (either at the top right when powered on, or on the main display if powered off). What confused me was that the ipod will play through the speakers even if it is not seated properly, but the remote won't work.

2. To power down, press and hold the play/pause button.

3. To power on, press and release the play/pause button (press and hold does not work).

4. To track back/forward, press and release the track buttons (again, press and hold does not work).

Hope this helps, Joe.

I just got my IM3, and I have a 40gb iPod running v 2.2 of the software and the remote will not control the iPod. It only works on the IM3.

The guide says it should control track selecton and be able to pause/power off the iPod as long as you are running v 2.1 or greater.

Any suggestions?

I just got an email from Altec Lansing saying that they now have a special version of the inMotion speakers for the iPod Mini:

Mini inMotions

Your review has inspired me to buy the inMotion, thanks.

I think the headphone jack on the back is to connect the speakers to a computer or laptop, just like other desktop speakers. I intend to use mine with a 12" iBook.

I have a older ipod was wondering if this would be worth getting.

It depends on what you're looking for. If you want it to fit in like in the picture, you really need a 3g iPod. If you're just looking for some good foldable speakers, I'd say go for it.

I love my speakers...However, they do not get quiet enough to use in my cubicle. :)

I did not think about that aspect when testing them: The lower sound threshold is not especially low, which can be a problem in a cube.
