I think in a past life, I must have been a mountain goat. ;0)
We have done more hiking over the last couple of days than I have in ages,
and my legs are tired! So far, we have seen: Carlsbad Caverns, The hordes of
turkeys that graze the valleys just before you get to Cloudcroft, the Space
Museum at Alamogordo, White Sands, Elephant Butte Lake, Petroglyph National
Monument (outside Albuquerque), a host of towns that would be familiar to anyone
that knows the words to the Route 66 song, Painted Desert and the Petrified
Forest National Parks, the rare white buffalo outside of Flagstaff, the south
rim of the Grand Canyon, the Tusayun Ruins, Four Corners, all sorts of Indian
reservations and pit stops…and everything that looked interesting along the
way. We are really doing a whirlwind tour, and we still have four days left!
Tonight we are in Cortez, and tomorrow we will tour the Anasazi ruins at Mesa
Verde. I have taken so many pictures that I
have actually filled my memory card in less than a day (almost 300 pictures). I
didn't even manage to do that in Scotland, on last year's spring break trip! We
have seen so many magnificent sights – look for a trip report on Julie's and my
other site, Traveling Fools, soon after we return.
