My dream is to one day build a house on top of a hill, at my family's ranch. I would love to have a “wired” home – one where the sound system, the lights, and other conveniences are all adjustable with the touch of a central remote control. Since I am a HGTV junkie, I know about many of the built-in electronic home options avaiable today – but I have to wonder if there is a point when the technology will become obsolete or “junk”. For instance, right now we live in a home that was built in 1928. While the woodwork and overall craftsmanship of the house is superb, I shudder to think what might have existed if the builder had installed whatever passed for technology at the time.
Considering how long homes are built to last, is it a wise decision to include the day's technology (other than the best wiring and plumbing possible) when you are building?
