I just saw a commercial for this device and here's my 2 cents...

It seems to me that this device (Gadget) would be similar to the "Fizz Keeper" made to keep the "Fizz" in bottles of soda. Having tried the Fizz Keeper I can say that it does not work as advertised. While the device does keep the bottle pressurized, it does not introduce CO2 but plain old air (Mainly Oxygen and Nitrogen). Most of the CO2 (Which gives the drink its fizz) escapes the second you open the bottle, which is what that psssssst sound is. Scientists tell us that the escaping gas can be pushed back into the liquid only by forcing more molecules of that particular gas (in this case carbon dioxide) into the space above the liquid. So what about the Quiktop? Well, considering above, I would think it would help prevent spills and perhaps even be worth the money with the clips and basically turning the can into a more portable container, but i don't think it would help to keep the fizz in the soda any longer than a day or so.

Firstly, the tone of some of the posts on this board are just unnecessary. Some people really need to grow up. Makes me think of 12-year olds on their parents' computers lashing out behind the safety of anonymity. A bit pathetic.

I am a little worried about seeing this review here - if it's a one-off, that's fair enough - but if kitchen slicers etc start appearing regularly, the usefulness and reputation of the site IS going to suffer. At the moment, you have a reputation around the web for good, user-friendly reviews of electronic gadgets - justifiably (apart from the 5450 review :p) - but if this kind of review is proliferated thoughout, the site is going to become rapidly less useful. And I would agree that it's impossible to tell what a 'quiktop' is without opening the review - so you can't take views as a measure of popularity in any sense at all. If it said 'quiktop soda saver' that would be different...

As the site grows, perhaps you should segment your reviews into electronics and non-electronics - or even PDA's/Personal hifi/accessories/Off-topic etc?

Could not have been better stated. Amen

Julie,

It's working because you are LUCKY, have you ever realised that? There is no other reason for people to like the stuff you review except that it was a coincidence, as far as you're concerned.

But if you actually did research on what is being hyped out there or etc, you may even find more success.

what does the work Gadget mean?? Anyone Anyone

gadg·et [ gájjt ] (plural gadg·ets)
noun

1. ingenious device: a small device that performs or aids a simple task

2. trivial device: a small object or device that appears useful but is often unnecessary or superfluous

I liked the article and I really don't see where it makes a difference or not whether it is Electronic to make it on this site. Since I have been a member for quite awhile, ( longer than listed since I was on here under a different profile a few years back ) and since I look at the site at least 3 times a day. ( Part of the Job ) I agree with Masterchief, Julie and Judie. The site belongs to them. If you don't want to read about a non-electronic gadget then don't but move on and stop flaming peoples Opinions.

Personally, I don't see why you would even care. Like Julie said, if it doesn't interest you then don't read it. Plain and simple.

Identify what it does next to the name on the home page and then see what kind of response you get.

I'm sorry, I'm not seeing a real point to any of the complaints to this review. As in all the reviews that we post here, if it is something that interests you, you can read about it. If it isn't, then don't. Regardless to the people that somehow think that reviewing a soda spout / lid is a sign of the apocalypse, this review has been pretty popular so far. Just go look at the number of times it's been read since I posted it on Tuesday. So far over 2600 views.

This might offend some people, but I'm my own customer. I write about things that interest me BEFORE I write about things that I think will interest others. That's the way I've been doing things for over 5 yrs now and it seems to be working.

Julie,

Customers (we are customers because you are paid advertising by people for us to see them) to your site have a right and what should be considered an obligation to criticize and complain. Normally, the underlying intention is to open your eyes and see what people are seeing. If someone didn't care, they would move on and not say a word. (Your probably hoping its would be me but only say this because I care.)

My 2 cents.

hmm...interesting invention. i would consider buying it if the $6 includes free shipping AND comes with an unopened soda can of my choice :). otherwise, not worth it -- might as well pour the soda in your thermal for even more effective preservation.

for those who prefer reading reviews of electronic gadgets only, i don't see why you can't just skip the reviews you're not interested in and move on with your life.

They had a short segment on this during the 2003 International Housewares show on Home/Garden television. Out of almost all the gadgets there, this was the most useful. I mentioned it at work the next day, and one co-worker said his mom was stung by a bee that crawled into her pop can. So this would be very useful! (Unlike the hot sauce maker and the sushi roller. :p )

I agree, probably $6 is a bit much for me. I will wait until it becomes more mainstream. In the meantime, I will drink my soda pop indoors. :)

No flame, I only go in to it when I get insulted.

Let see, I told you that I'am speaking from my mind, I said stuff that would remind some fat people to think about their related habits twice. Yeah, I know, reality hurts(for the fat ones) and I'am speaking it, but if everything is left the same, they won't get up their collective asses and change for the better.

You only see my sh!t from one angle, but you really do need a negative voice amid all the positive. Even if it is straying to the subject. And please don't say "WE don't need your negative comments.

Reader,

Offense taken. Maybe you should think before you speak. It is so easy for you to be hyper-critical of others when you are hiding behind the anonymity of the internet. For all we know, you are a little troll in your mother's basement - but you know what? If you had something constructive and interesting to say, we wouldn't care! You never cease to amaze me with the words you vomit out. You're a registered user - maybe you should edit yourself once in a while.

If you want to flame me, go for it. But I suggest you move it to your own bulletin board on a site you've poured your own heart and soul into.

I'am with you on this one, finish the damn drink. But on the other hand, it'll help many of these fat couch potatos gain less weight(it's hard enough trying to lose them). Now they don't have to pressure their idiotic selfs to finish the drink for the sake of not wasting.

A timely review i suppose after seeing some of the GTOM(gagetteer of the month). But one or two actually looked like they were released from the concentration camp...

No offence, this came striaght from my mind.

Thanks, Julie, for an interesting review! I've learned about so many gadgets from this website that I never would have discovered on my own.

I drink 3-4 cans of seltzer water a day, and am guaranteed almost every evening of having a partial can left. I've tried other carbonation-saving gadgets with little success.

Might have to give this one a try.... :)

This just goes to show that for every need, there almost always exists a corresponding gadget.... ;)

Youve got to be kidding.

This is not a gadget. It is only right that a guy from Sigma Automotive would praise Julie for her review of this stupid product. I say, finish off the $0.50 cent soda, dammit.

I doubt that a flood of orders came in from this site. What 10 or so? Really.

Not to be critical and just as the other guy said its Julies show and she can do whatever she wants.

But "a two piece plastic soda can spout / lid" ?!

Lost a lot of respect with the T/C review and now this.

Wow.

Dear Julie,

Thank you for reviewing this product for Sigma Automotive, Inc. I wasn't going to expose my identity by posting here but I needed to let you know this product is a genuine gadget and that your decision on reviewing it was definitely right for your readers.

What makes me say that? All the orders which started to flood in since last night are the best proof. And yes, your article referred them to us.

Your readers appreciate your review and they are so convinced of the benefits of this gadget that they waste no time in ordering.

Regarding this unit being sold at grocery store, it will be at least another 1 - 2 years before this will happen. The manufacturer in Europe just cannot meet the demand worldwide so selling to big chains is not an option now. If this gadget wasn't cool and wasn't truly innovative, we wouldn't have approached Julie in the first place, and Julie wouldn't have reviewed it either.

Thank you again.

RE: Review of Quick Top. Please, stick to your knitting. Next thing you will be selling vegematics or oxidizing cleaner with orange oil.

I respect your judgement on electronic items, and don't want to see you dilute yourself with stuff normally seen in super market check out lanes.
