Actually, I bought Palm m100 devices for my 3 daughters, including my 3 year old for Christmas gifts. We homeschool them and find they can use them for keeping their friends and family phonebooks, scheduling their schoolwork, and using them for educational purposes. There are some great quiz/flash card type programs available for them to work on their math and other skills. I even bought a Stowaway keyboard so they could practice typing. I have brought my 2 oldest to my user group meetings to expose them to the community and they are having as much fun as I am.

I enjoyed reading about your enthusiasm for PDAs.

Has your passion for PDAs proved to be contagious? In other words, is the "force" strong with your daughters, palmsolo?

The reason I ask is that there seems to be so many benefits of using technology in education (ebooks, PDAs, and laptops). Just think about how strong the "force" would be within your daughters if they were exposed to the technology, that you are so passionate for, in school. By the time they graduate from high school they could probably teach their dad (aka palmsolo) a thing or two.

I have been studying up on the educational applications of handheld, ebook, and laptop technology. The educational community is in need of the enthusiasm that you exemplify. While I am still a young Jedi, learning the world of possibilities with all this great emerging technology. I am confident that if we could organize the enthusiasm, and direct our actions toward our kids, education would experience an evolution revolution through technology.

Palmsolo, I hope you will continue to share your enthusiasm. The "dark side" (aka lack of enthusiasm for technology) looms in the educational community and needs more people like you.

What If?

I submitted this article a couple months ago and since that time I bought (and then sold) a Sharp Zaurus SL-5500. The sync software didn't want to play well with my Palm and Pocket PC devices and required me to do a total hard drive system recovery to reestablish my TCP/IP connection. I have read of sync issues with the Zaurus and didn't have the time to mess with it too much. I only used it for a couple hours before selling it for what I paid for it on ebay.

I bought a refub T615C for $180 so I could review Palm software for PDAGeek and keep my foot in the Palm camp. I just bought a used Sony NR70 device for $200 (still in the mail) because I read a ton of ebooks and offline sites that I wanted to check out the huge screen. I am thinking that if I like the NR70 I may sell it and the T615C to get a NX device and get the benefit of using WiFi at my home on a big screen. However, I understand Julie and Judie didn't order the NX because the feature set wasn't enough of a change over the NR so I am still debating this issue. I would love a T form factor with the NR/NX display and soft Grafitti. I can't believe Sony hasn't released one of these babies yet.
