Who is that young guy in the review? :-)

I think the reason these things never caught on, aside from the obvious – they are geeky, is that over time there was less of a need for them. You no longer need a specialty item to carry your phone, your PDA, your pager; they are all wrapped up in one device these days. And most people can get by carrying one device.

[Wow, I am amazing that a 10yr old review has received a comment!]

Actually, I'm amazed and gratified that this review is still up on the Web! :)

As near as I can make out, the BurroPak didn't sell well, despite its being an excellent idea for both Newton/Palm users. Alas, it's almost unknown today outside of geek circles. This review is the one place I know of that not only explains what it is, (and does) but that also has pictures of the thing.

Hello,

[Now where can I find a shoulder holster that can take an Apple Newton 2100?]

LandWare made one of these for the Newton, too. In fact, the Newton model pre-dates the Palm one reviewed here.

The catch? Well, the Newton version of the BurroPak is even rarer than the Palm one. And while BurroPaks pop up on eBay from time to time, they tend to go for Silly Money, seeing as how they are so rare, yet are a very practical and unobtrusive way of carrying around a Newton 2x00 (which, let's face it, isn't the easiest device to carry around).

If you're still looking for a shoulder-holster type arrangement for a Newton, you may want to take a look at the eHolster site. They're not cheap, but they seem to have a lot of options to offer. I'd be surprised if at least one of the pouch options they offer wouldn't accomodate a Newton.

It's a shame that the BurroPak (either the Palm *or* the Newton version) never really caught on: it makes a lot of sense. Of course, this is NOT the way to carry stuff around airports and/or cops, which may be the reason it never really caught on. :)

Julie

Don't be. Us Apple Newton users have been looking around for holster solutions as well; and I found this review interesting reading; a pity that Landware no longer stock them.

With the recession, there might be more people checking out retro-technology as discretionary income becomes increasingly scarce.

Cheers

Genghis.

Hey,

Good review. After becoming more than slightly obsessed with a good carrying system for all my ever-changing gadgetry, I tried a lot of these.

This one, to me, was just like having my own saddle bag... but less cool. Burro for sure.

Then for Christmas, I got my girlfriend a pink leather holster for her iPhone. She LOVES it.... I got it at tekholster.com.

The cool part about it is how simple it is. How light it is. It stays put, out of the way, and looks really cool.

They have a ton of colors and you can get 3 different holsters. Anyway, that's the one I am currently using and it fits all my different-sized devices plus my cigar holder!
